Rockets, Euro-Candy, and The Genius of Youth

Rockets are cool – especially rockets that are two centuries old! OK, the 5-inch Gauge model of ‘Rocket’ that rolled up this week isn't actually that old; it was built a few years ago by O.S. models in Japan. But fire her up, and you’ll be treated to a symphony of sound, smoke and movement to rival her space-going counterparts. This Rocket’s been kept in mint condition by her previous owner (and in fact never steamed). She’s one of a tiny handful built by O.S.and will make a very special companion for the next steely-eyed rocket man (or woman!) who takes to her saddle. Without doubt this week’s star exhibit.

Fly me to the moon...

Elsewhere, our talented team members are coming out of their shells when it comes to showing and telling. This week Evan’s handiwork is taking centre stage. Evan’s knowledge of railway history is already legendary among the gang, and he’s often hinted at things he’s tinkering with. It turns out that his latest ‘tinker’ involves nothing less than constructing his own Midland 4-4-0, complete with brass chassis.

Apparently it’s his first rodeo with the shiny stuff, but if these progress shots are anything to go by, it’s going to be a glittering debut. The even better news is that as Evan’s only 24, the future of model-making would seem to be secure; we’ll try to keep him locked securely away and safe from harm!

A craftsman in the making...

Cafe culture, fairytale architecture, haute couture – and pleasingly macho steam engines with more than a little steam-punk vibe. We’ve been welcoming some wonderful continental visitors to both Clark Railworks and Ellis Clark Trains recently. These guys are never afraid to show off their pipes and pointy bits – which is a fancy way of saying that they’re beautifully detailed. This week we’ve got some particularly elegant O Gauge engines from Fulgurex and Lemaco. Constructed from brass and possessed of running qualities akin to the smoothest of sewing machines, they represent the pinnacle of European model manufacturing and make for eye-catching showpieces among any collection. Although sadly, they can’t darn your socks.

Continental chic...

And finally, we’re breathing out after a very busy few weeks on the show circuit, which culminated in Model Rail Scotland last weekend. This is a great exhibition and one where visitors often encounter the pre-owned delights of Clark Railworks for the first time. If you bought something from our stand, remember that we always have hundreds of pre-owned OO and N Gauge models in stock, from all the top names in the business. We update the website five days a week with latest arrivals, so if you missed out on the last production run of your favourite model or are looking to save some serious money on expanding your fleet, make sure to make a tea-time stop at CRW
