Our super-detailed crowd-pleaser in a pint-sized package
TT Gauge is the perfect compromise of size and detail. And it also boasts a perfect scale relationship between the size of the trains and the gauge of the track. So everything just looks right. We like things that look right. So for our first venture into the world of TT, we’ve chosen to shrink our splendid O Gauge Presflos into a much smaller – but still beautifully formed – package.

Presflos at work
We’ve been down the Presflo road before. So we don’t need to tell you that they’re not only interesting to look at but incredibly useful for recreating almost any part of the country from the mid-’50s to the late-’80s. Best known as cement carriers, they also dabbled in salt, clay, sand, alumina and powdered slate. Their cargo was poured in from the top but unloaded from the bottom; to prevent clumping, pressurised air was pumped through it – hence the name. Presflos’ trademark external ribs strengthened the bodyshell, preventing it from collapsing inwards when the contents were emptied.
Presflos were mostly decked out in bauxite, but those working for Blue Circle Industries in South West England stood out from the crowd with an eye-catching yellow livery. At the opposite end of the country, Presflos were often included in mixed trains on the Ballachulish branch (carrying alumina to the smelter at Kinlochleven) and were attached to the rear of passenger trains on the Kyle line to support oil rig construction at Loch Kishorn in the 1970s. They really did wander far and wide.
Our Presflos
Our O gauge Presflos raised the bar for O Gauge wagons, and their little brothers do the same for TT. They sport metal ladders and handrails, brass buffers, and the same ‘ultraflex’ bufferbeam pipes featured on our OO Gauge models. We’ve covered the different batches of Presflos built by Metro-Cammell, GRCW and the Butterley Iron Company. They all have a wealth of separately fitted parts and – of course – an underframe to die for.
Our TT Presflos will be available in three different packs of three wagons, plus a single wagon, as follows:
